Alternatives To Violence 

Safe Alternatives for Abused Families offers a program for adults who have been violent in their intimate relationships. Anyone who has been court-ordered to complete a batterer's treatment program and/or men who have a history of or are concerned about being physically, sexually, emotionally, and/or verbally abusive toward their intimate partners are highly encouraged to enroll. About the Program 

SAAF Alternatives To Violence Program is an educational support group-based program aiming to help male batterers understand and take responsibility for their violent behavior. SAAF provides participants the opportunity to change abusive and controlling behaviors and to present domestic violence in intimate partner and/or family relationships.


By attending this comprehensive program, you can learn how to change abusive patterns and habits.

Goals of the Program 

SAAF provides a comprehensive batterer's intervention program in order to

1) increase victim safety; 
2) decrease victim deaths; 

3) reduce the number of domestic violence incidents; and 

4) reduce the 

reoffender rate.

Upon program completion, participants better understand: 

  • The severity of their actions
  • The devastating effects of domestic violence on their loved ones 
  • How to choose & use non-abusive alternatives in their relationships.

The Process

INTAKE & ORIENTATION 

You will meet with staff to complete paperwork process and introduce you to the group process. If you are court ordered to attend, written notification will be sent to the Court indicating you have completed your intake & orientation, and will begin group session.


Attendance and participation will be reported to the Court. Sessions address key topics with activities designed to increase knowledge, explore beliefs and behaviors.


Activities are geared to help batterers accept responsibility for their actions, learn what abusive choices and behaviors are, why they are not acceptable and learn to make respectful choices within their relationships.

EXIT INTERVIEW

After completion of 26 weeks of group, you will end the program with an exit interview. This is your opportunity to provide us with your impression of the program.

Schedule‚Äč

Women's Program sessions are held every Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm. 

Men's Program sessions are held every Wednesday from 6:30pm to 8 pm.

They are ongoing and open-ended so participant may join the program at any time.
